NASA American Iron Extreme - Infineon Raceway 2003 |
June 28-29, 2003 - Total Control Products participated in our first competitive race hosted by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA). NASA was formed in 1991 to deliver high quality motorsports events to enthusiasts at major racing venues throughout the nation. In addition to their weekend schedule of competitive racing series that include the Porsche Racing Challenge, Spec Miata, and the open wheel class Fran-Am 1600, to name just a few, NASA has recently added the exciting American Iron™ series. The American Iron™ series is comprised of two classes, the American Iron (AI) and American Iron Extreme (AIX). These two classes include front engine, rear wheel drive "ponycars" such as Mustangs, Cameros, and Firebirds from 1960 through current year. The AI class limits vehicles to a 1:9.5 power to weight ratio and anything exceeding this limits falls into the AIX class. "This class was designed to showcase the massive improvements that careful suspension, brake, and chassis modifications can make to these amazingly popular cars and provide a spectator show for fans of these cars that is second to none." (quoted from NASA website) The open performance modification rules of the AI/AIX series seemed the perfect fit for our TCP 1965 Fastback, outfitted with all of our Street/Track chassis stiffening, rack and pinion steering and suspension products, including our new rear coilover kit. Terry Buch, owner and chief designer of the Total Control product line, piloted #34 to podium finishes for both Saturday's and Sunday's races. Saturday's qualifying session yielded a starting position of 7th on the grid. A 2nd place AIX, 4th place overall finish for Saturday's race was an excellent start to the weekend. Saturday's 2nd fastest race lap time was also set by our very own #34. Terry started 3rd on the grid for Sunday's race and finished with a 3rd place AIX/overall finish. Throughout the weekend Terry's lap times were improving with a personal best 1:50.228 et during Sunday's race. The weekend was a huge success and a great opportunity to really push the car and our products closer to their limits. For a full race report check out the American Iron West website. We would like to thank the NASA staff and AI/AIX group for their assistance
in showing us the ropes on our rookie weekend. We would also like to thank
our sponsors for providing us with top notch components and support. |
